This weekend, the team travelled to Ireland with Get Ahead for her Group 1 appearance in the Flying Five Stakes over five furlongs at the Curragh on Sunday (10th September). The filly put in a tremendous performance to finish second, beaten by only half a length, and we were thrilled as she showcased her aptitude for sprinting with this talented display in group 1 company.
Under the steer of Richard Kingscote - who gave a very positive ride throughout - she showed great speed as she picked up inside the closing stages to challenge and hit the front, where she looked like she would steal the win. Final strides unfolded her defeat however, as she was beaten half a length by the fast-finishing winner.
Get Ahead continues to express herself as a genuine sprinter with stacks of ability, especially in this calibre of racing. We couldn’t be prouder of this result for the Beechdown team and her owning syndicate, Hot to Trot Racing, and the Harper family.
