After finishing in an eye-catching second place on a pleasing debut at Wolverhampton last month, Smouldering returned to the track a worthy favourite at Kempton on Wednesday evening (22nd May), to readily win the Novice Stakes over seven furlongs. Quick away from the gates, Richard Kingscote swiftly took up a prominent position before making a shrewd move on the rail, where the filly picked up fiercely and gained the lead by a neck.
As a lightly raced three-year-old we have taken our time with her, but this filly is a Profitable prodigy (a sire we are, of course, very well acquainted with) so a notable type and she is learning all the time. It’s great to watch her now gain momentum in her work at home and on the track. She will come on well from this run, both in strength and mindset, and we look forward to seeing more from her as we line up her next targets. A fantastic result for her owner, Alan Spence, especially as Alan bred her and also owned her sire, Profitable, and her dam, Street Fire. Well done to the Beechdown team too, as our winning form continues this week.
