A Windsor Win with Sergeant Pep

It was a very prominent performance from our three-year-old gelding, Sergeant Pep, who secured a stylish 1¼ length lead over the line in the opener at Windsor on Monday night (7th August), in the 5f handicap.

Landing his debut as a two-year-old last year on the all-weather, he has been unlucky so far this season over six furlongs. Following the decision to drop him back in distance, we were pleased five furlongs suited him much better this time out and it was great to see this race play to his favour and to see him finishing so strongly out in front. Showing early speed from the break, he found himself nudged along in second from halfway, but a competitive ride from John Fahy encouraged him to smartly engage and power into closing stages to win with ease. This was a very nice display from this horse, particularly on the softer ground, and a fantastic result for his owning syndicate, Middleham Park Racing.
