Running in the Group 1 Qatar Prix du Jockey Club in Chantilly, the team travelled with our Classics contender, Ghostwriter, who put in a dedicated performance with Richard Kingscote at the helm to finish in a strong fourth out of the field of fourteen.
Ghostwriter ran a very admirable race on ground that would have been appreciated to be slightly better than the reported soft, after over 30mm of rain in the previous week at Chantilly. He travelled in a perfect position, just behind the leader with a really good rhythm and had to help himself out a very tight gap in the straight. He looked like he was going to pick-up but the ground just dampened his ability to change gears, as he had shown possible last year on a firmer surface. We hope that going a mile and a quarter on a different surface will prove slightly more effective; even though he has finished fourth in two classics this year, which we are extremely proud of. It’s great to have such a high performer for Jeff Smith and we look forwards to our future journey with this exciting prospect.
