It was a great occasion for Archie’s Angel on Saturday (20th July), as the two-year-old colt landed a very smart win, with an easy length in hand in the 7f Novice Stakes on his career debut at Haydock.
After a slightly green start on breaking from the stalls, John Fahy did an excellent job rebalancing him to find his stride and composed him at the rear, where they sat gathering momentum before approaching closing stages. With three furlongs from home, the pair still had plenty to do with a lot of race still in front of them, but on switching to the near side things suddenly opened up and he showed an almighty turn of foot, storming down the field in a last to first place showdown within the final yards.
This was a terrific performance from him, especially in such early days, and he presents himself as a promising individual with encouraging scope. As always, it’s great to be training another exciting prospect for Paul and Marie McCartan, who we have shared much success with, and we are all delighted with the result from this hopeful newcomer.
