Following a very smart winning debut first time out at Newmarket last month, we were thrilled to see Ghostwriter finish in front once again – over seven furlongs again this time on slightly quicker ground at Ascot on Saturday (9th September).
Running in the Class 2 Novice Stakes, the race was a competitive card of two-year-olds colts and carrying the additional 6lbs weight penalty it was set to be a challenge. That said, his focused approach to the race saw him and William Buick neatly poised in front with a narrow lead before picking up the tempo with a quarter mile from home. Smartly quickening away, he continued to put distance between himself and the field with enough in hand to cross the line easily by 1¼ lengths.
We were absolutely thrilled with this result, that marks his second win from two starts. As a progressive newcomer, he has advanced physically and mentally with a mind for racing and presents an exciting prospect to watch unfold for both his owner, Jeff Smith, as well as the team at home. We now look ahead to his next held entry in the Royal Lodge Stakes back at Newmarket at the end of the month, whilst consider some classy fixtures for next year.
