After a disappointing defeat at Goodwood earlier this month, where the soft ground got the better of us, we were delighted to celebrate Havana Blue’s return to the track with a winning result on much quicker conditions last week at Newmarket (20th May).
Drawn 4 from a field of 13 runners, our stall position gave us a strong introduction to the race where John Fahy settled him behind early leaders. Approaching the downhill part of the course inside the final furlong we watched things get exciting as his determined jockey on board found a gap in the field and smartly quickened for home. Swiftly outranking his company with every stride, he crossed the line with a pleasing 1 ¾ lengths to spare.
We were really impressed with this performance; this is a progressive colt and we look forwards as his confidence grows further. He is presenting himself as a very capable three-year-old, and we have some nice opportunities for him this season and hopefully many more successes for his owning connections, Teme Valley Racing.
