Midnight Drive Makes Handicap Debut a Winning One

Having only ran her first race back in December, we were delighted to see Midnight Drive’s progressive form continue on the all-weather, as she secured her debut victory under the great ride of John Fahy at Kempton, in her first handicap appearance.

Breaking away smartly, the three-year-old filly was keen to establish pace but settled nicely poised in mid-division until closing stages, where she was pulled wide and made up ground in a spectacular fashion. With the field all battling for the line there were plenty racing in close contention, and for a moment it looked like we could be well beaten, but hot on the heels of her competition, in an impressive finish, she was late to challenge and dug deep to find another gear; narrowly vanquishing her rival in an exciting photo finish.

Although lightly raced as a two-year-old, she is continuing to improve and strengthen with every performance which is great to see. We had stepped her up to a mile for this race (from her previous 7f), which we are pleased to say nicely proved the further distance beckoned. Going by this performance – as well as her dam’s pedigree – there’s a possibility she could stay on even further next time. A very pleasing result for her owner, Isa Salman Al Khalifa.
