We were delighted to see four-year-old Mille Miglia gain her first win of the season in the Arete Fillies’ Handicap last week (Friday 2nd September) on the good to firm ground at Haydock, over the 1m3½f distance. Breaking well to settle early in a nice position in third, the filly tracked neatly behind the front runner, Yorkindness, who was striding out with an early advantage. Leaving the backstraight with four furlongs from home saw her jockey, Kevin Scott, begin to make his move as she crept up to challenge the pace.
It was an exciting finish down to the line, as we watched the filly stay on strongly racing in the centre of what was almost a blanket finish. Her prominent performance, with the added help of her cheekpieces, meant she inched out her competitor, 10-8F Qoya, who she beat by a short head. A great showcase of her racing potential and a lovely win for the Hot to Trot Racing Syndicate and owner and breeder, David Clark.
