Sergeant Pep wins Handicap at Leicester

The Middleham Park Racing syndicate continued with their winning streak on Tuesday (8th October), as Sergeant Pep won nicely in the five-furlong Handicap at Leicester.

Breaking away he sat well positioned in midfield under Richard Kingscote, who had the four-year-old tracking patiently behind early leaders. By halfway he looked like he might have been outpaced, but his love for testing ground – and a track record for outperforming in heavier conditions – played to his strength as he ran on gamely into closing stages. Picking up inside the final furlong, he pulled clear and crossed the line comfortably with ¾ length to spare.

Dropping him back to five furlongs on this occasion seemed to really suit and we were delighted to see him travel so strongly, as he continues to prove himself as a classy sprinter. Of course the ground is key at this time of year, but there is a 0-88 at Newbury on 25th; it’s worth £22.5k so not too bad for just down the road and the weighting band.
